Promoting pressed flower art throughout the world

WWPFG Judge Biography

 Kate Chu

Nature provides inspiration as well as materials for my art. I am glad that I can use these miracles of nature to artistically express my feelings and ideas freely. I have won numerous international fine arts and pressed flower art awards and have appeared on HGTV. My artworks are in private collections throughout North America and Asia.

I started teaching pressed flower art in 1998. I have developed a system that has helped so many people creating beautiful pressed flower artwork, even without any previous art training. My students range from age seven to seniors. I believe pressed flower art is a gift from nature. It should be shared and enjoyed by everyone and not just a few. I am a co-founder of the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild and served as its first president. I have pioneered online pressed flower art classes. I have helped the WWPFG developing its online classes and have taught many classes in all levels.

I have been heavily involved in organizing competitions in the WWPFG since its formation and have served as a judge many times. I have also been leading the effort to standardize the judging process by developing the judge's guidelines. We also have developed a continuous improvement process. I have also been serving as a judge at the Philadelphia Flower Show's Pressed Plant Competition.

I was born in Beijing, China but have lived in the United States since 1975. I now live in Southern California with my husband and our son, who together give me the best critiques and support.
