WWPFG Judge Biography

 Theresa Phillips

A native to the Philadelphia area, Theresa is a graduate of The Philadelphia College of Art.  She continues to reside in Media, Pennsylvania, USA, the suburb where she was born and raised. She began her work with pressed flowers in 1973. With encouragement from her husband, and his boss, she entered the Philadelphia Flower Show then and every year since.  In addition, she exhibits her work at the Philadelphia Harvest Show and the Media Art Show.  She is a decorated artist, with many ribbons and awards. In 1980 she achieved "Best of Show" for her Puff the Magic Dragon bookmark design. That same year she also took "Best of Show" at the Philadelphia Harvest Show.  Since then she has continued to win numerous blue, red, gold and white ribbons.

Theresa's career with her art has taken her down many paths; not to mention has kept her very busy.  She owned a craft shop for two years, where she sold her work.  She has taught several classes and workshops for children and adults, and served as Chairperson of Pressed Plants for seven years for the Philadelphia Flower Show. Theresa attended a conference in Japan to help establish the International Pressed Flower Art Society (IPFAS). In June 2001, she served as a judge in London at an art show for IPFAS, where artists from all over the world competed.  She is a member of the WWPFG, The Pressed Flower Guild (England), and IPFAS for whom she also a liaison. Theresa also publishes a newsletter named Fertile Acre Press, which is sent to pressed flower enthusiasts worldwide. "I love crafts of many types," Theresa said. During the summer months, she teaches crafts to children with her daughter Mary, at a local swim club. " I use to knit, crochet and sew a little, but now my gardening, wedding bouquet business and pressing keep me too busy. I learn new things about our art all of the time.  Pressing if you are serious can be a fulltime experience."
