Denise Tenzel

I have always loved being outdoors, enjoying nature, whether it be in camping, walking, bicycling, painting, or just talking with friends on the side walks of Paris where I come from.  At twelve years of age I could already spend hours drawing, painting “en plein air”, while day dreaming of Lamartine and Musset….Of course like for everyone else, most of my educative years were spent inside, literature became my dominant subject, and art in its many forms  always a close second.

With marriage, a subsequent emigration to the US, and the birth of our two children we did much traveling in the country and abroad; my enjoyment of art became intertwined with studies of cultures.

Already many years back, we discovered and settled on the Northern California Coast, there I happily could join all my favorite worlds, and spend many blissful hours outdoors.

The construction and development of two large gardens simply gave me the art form that was perfect for me: pressed flowers.

I have been engaged in this art for approximately 10 years-Tentatively at the beginning; with much support from family and friends,  also from two art teachers, colleagues of mine, till luck brought me to this wonderful guild. I am glad to have been one of the earlier members.

True to its written “mission statement” the Guild is a place to share, to learn, to give, to continue refining and perfecting, pressed flower art for oneself as an artist and for the world at large to appreciate.
