Supplies to Bring:
2 Roses – Pressed.  These must be florist-type of roses, not garden roses. The petals need to be pressed and dried – Chick here for directions.  (Any color will work, but 2-toned roses will be helpful for future reference) Give these 1-2 weeks to dry depending upon method used
Sepals and leaves from that rose
One 5x7 frame
Glue
Scissors
Toothpick

  10:30AM-11:30AM  Pastel Background for Tropical Landscape   Mirian Tatsumi
    Description: students will prepare the background of the Landscape for Saturday Class.
Material that students have to bring to class:
- soft pastel in the following colors (see the picture): yellow, orange, red, light blue, blue sky, brown, light green (like pear green), white and black.
-  One Canson paper (Mi teints) in A4 size
- a small piece of soft cloth
- apron
- one small white and soft rubber eraser
- craft knife
Mirian will bring Canson paper, so  students can purchase if necessary.

Utilize petals of different shades and tints of analogous colors of mini sunflowers, such as white, pink, magenta, violet, purple in the same color family, to create a flower with volume. Blending of flowers with pastel background accentuates contrast and enhances depth of 3D look.
Material: Pressed flowers and background paper provided
Tools to bring: tweezers, scissors, glue, pastel color 

Material to bring: Pressed greens such as ivy

Make and take a one inch square book with 5 pages of tiny flowers. Students need to bring the tiny flowers and foliage to "fill " the 5 pages. Keep a bit of summer with you all year round!

  10:00AM-12:30PM   Creating a window Elaine McMahon
   

In this class you will be creating a window that looks out to a garden of “confetti flowers”.  Onion membrane will be used to create the “glass”. Picture size is 8x10.
Students are asked to provide petals of their choice to create the curtain.  Materials must cover a 6” wide area.
Other necessary materials include:
Botanical glue and regular glue
Small scissors
1 sheet of tracing paper
Small ruler and pencil
Double-sided tape
small paint brush

 
  12:30PM-2:00PM Lunch and socializing
  2:00PM- 5:00PM   Tropical Landscape and birds  (include demo of vaccume sealing method) Mirian Tatsumi 
   

Students will learn how to do a tropical landscape, using as background the one prepared in Friday's class.  Students will learn how to make tropical birds to be used in the tropical landscape. Mirian will teach how to use pressed flowers and leaves in order to create depth in a picture. At the end of the second part of the class, Mirian will do a demo of the vacuum sealing method she uses in all her works.
Material students have to bring to class:
- One Canson paper (Mi teints) A4 size, prepared as background on Friday's class.
- tweezers
- craft knife
- double face tape
- one carbon paper (any color different from white, for instance black or blue or red)
- one black pencil
- three ink jet labels (A4 size)
- small and medium pair of scissors
- double face tape
- Plants: maidenhair, Krauss’ spikemoss, large green leaves, white and colored (dyed) Queen Anne's Lace, tiny flowers of various colors, petals of various colors of callistephus chinensis (a kind of daisy that can be found in various colors), petals of gerberas in various colors, orange and black cosmos (or any other black small petals), pampas grass, maidenhair, small dark green leaves, white daisy petals, colored small and medium size petals.
Note: Mirian will bring labels, Krauss´ spikemoss, callistephus chinensis petals, pampas grass and other plants and petals, so  students can purchase if necessary.

Learn to make a waterfall picture using pressed leaves, ferns and flowers.
