Growing up in the foot hills of the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina led to my appreciation and love of  flowers.  Some of my earliest memories are of my Grandmother’s vegetable garden.  Among her tomatoes and beans she nestled marigolds and nasturtiums.  I can still smell the sweet peas that clung to her garden fence.  Many of her blooms found their way into the family bible.  A stem of lily of the valley is all that is left now.

 In 1986 my husband and I moved to southern Missouri-the Heart of the Ozarks.  Again, I found the area rich with the beauty of flowers.  I began looking for ways to preserve them for our enjoyment year-round.  In 1993 I settled on pressing and designing.  I’ve always enjoyed art, but became totally absorbed with the art of ‘painting with petals’!   

Now I find myself in the beautiful prairies of South Dakota!  My husband, who was born in Webster, SD, longed to return to the place of his youth.  Once more I have been inspired by the beauty around me.  I am fortunate enough to live in an area that is abundant with wild flowers.  And, oh, what majestic sunsets we have here! 

I have done many pressed flower art pieces on commission and enjoy that close interaction with my customers.  And I have really enjoyed the many presentations and classes I’ve done.  Sharing what I have learned will hopefully bring  others  to an  appreciation for this art form.
